Description

Empathy Makers: Making for Change

Taught by Christa Flores

Every year approximately 7.6 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide. Of those, approximately 2.7 million shelter animals are adopted each year (1.4 million dogs and 1.3 million cats). In this class you will use art, technology and science to address this real world problem. Learn about a real animal ready for adoption at a local shelter in Santa Clara. Make a pet portrait using tracing techniques and paper electrical circuits to light up your animal’s name. All portraits will be donated back to your animal’s shelter, put on display and then given to families or friends to take home with their newly adopted family member.

Make-HER workshops are open to girls aged 8 - 12 and their mothers (or other adult female mentors). Our #LadyMaker educators have designed content specifically for this age group. Therefore the workshops are not appropriate for those under age eight, please no younger siblings. You may cancel up to 48 hours in advance through this site. Those who do not show without cancellation will be prevented from registering for subsequent Make-HER workshops. Each workshop requires a separate registration. Each registration reserves spots for both you and your daughter.
